What, me worry?

Constantly.  Although I'm thrilled at his return, watching Andre Markov playing hockey is stressing me completely out.  I'm sitting on the edge of the sofa waiting for the end to come.  That one hit that will end his career.  Tonight my boy Sid steps on the ice, I'll need tranquilizers or a good stiff drink (never both at the same time, then I'd worry about dying in my sleep) to get me through it

Don't even get me started on Saku Koivu.  I've fretted over him for years, every time there was a mention that he wasn't feeling well I was terrified that his cancer had returned.  I hold Saku personally responsible for every gray hair for the past ten years. This game we call hockey is supposed to be fun, not a hand wringing stress inducing horrible feeling that the end is nigh.

I'm glad spring is just about sprung, I need to get a little sunshine, fresh air and a life.

On location at Laguna Beach and Honda Center.....

Had a great day yesterday, we headed out to Laguna Beach around noon.  The weather cooperated and we only had a little sprinkling of rain.  Quaint little artist's town, with lots of galleries, boutique hotels and  a large selection of restaurants to choose from.  We had settled on "230 Forest Avenue" and weren't disappointed.  Some lunch items sampled were a rare Ahi tuna burger, Kobe burgers, deep fried squid and a deep fried oyster sandwich.  We then took a leisurely stroll around town to walk off our meal.

Laguna Beach

Next up, Habs versus Ducks at Honda Center.  I proudly put on my Koivu Duck's jersey and by the time the score was 3-0 decided that as much as I love Saku, I was jinxing les boys.  Off with the jersey, my seven year old nephew, who is a Ducks fan was more than happy to wear it, even though it went down to his knees.  The Honda Center is a  nice venue, you can get close to the rink before the puck drops and snap a few pics.

Check out all the Habs jerseys!

My beloved Captain K

Olympic medal jerseys, for some strange reason, Team USA jerseys are not on display....

Great game, we certainly got our money's worth, Habs comeback, overtime and a shoot out.

All good things must come to an end, I'm leaving early tomorrow morning, but not before a visit to my favorite restaurant in Malibu.  Pics and post to follow in the next day or two.

Desperately Seeking Sunshine........

This is by far my least favorite time of year.  Christmas is over, three long months of winter to get through before hearing the sweet sound of birds merrily chirping, a sound that I love because it's a sure sign that spring is in the air.  It's been a very gloomy and damp couple of weeks, not overly cold, but just grey and bleak.  The Habs dismal performance over the weekend did little to lighten my mood.  It's time for a pick me up.  A big dose of good old vitamin C, not out of a bottle or a juice container, but the real deal.  So I'm off for a long weekend in March to la la land (California).  It's been four years since I've been, I need my fix.  Sunshine, warm weather, the beach, my favorite restaurant and outlet shopping. Heaven.  And an afternoon  visit to the Honda Center to see my beloved hockey team suck in the flesh.  If you happen to tune in to watch the Habs play the Ducks on March 7th, keep an eye out for the nut in the Duck's Koivu jersey cheering the Habs. That lightly tanned, well fed nut with a smoking hot credit card would be me.  Am I there yet?

The bestest Christmas present........

My very first NHL jersey!  Voila.....

My sister sent it from L.A., it's the real deal, I can smell the smog and marine layer on it!  I'm sure some of the Habs' purists will be clucking their tongues in disapproval....tough!  The Habs are my team but Saku will always be my favorite player no matter where he ends up.  As an added bonus I plan to wear it to work some day, just for the pure pleasure of pissing off the separatists and believe me there's plenty of them.

I'm telling a little bit of a white lie, the jersey was the second thing on my wish list.  The first thing I asked Santa for was Sheldon Souray dipped in chocolate.  Santa has never failed me in the past, but I suspect while he was trying to fit his rather large rear end into our chimney Mr. Moey snuck outside.  He won't admit to it but I know he found Shelly bound and gagged in the back of Santa's sleigh and set him free.  Well, one good deed deserves another, there was no Catherine Zeta-Jones on rye for Mr. Moey either.  We're even.

I'm sending positive vibes to Markov for his dreaded return to the ACC tonight.  Everything comes in threes, but not this time. Please join me in repeating this chant against the Leafs 13 times:

Darksome powers of the night,
gather round my candle's flame,
send my enemy in shaded flight,
send my enemy away in shame.

It might not be as effective without the dragon's blood but as much as I love my Habs there's no chance in hell I'm venturing out to the mall on boxing day.

Farewell my captain.......

My dream for you was to see you skate with the Cup, now that will never happen, at least not in Montreal. I hope you sign with a team that appreciates your dedication, professionalism and hard work ethics. I hope you have a fan base that recognizes what you bring on the ice and it's a small comfort to me that you will no longer be blamed for every up and down that the team has. Your excellent command of the English language will serve you well no matter where you go and will not be met with disdain because you don't speak French. I will miss seeing your picture every night on the local news when they preview the upcoming sports segment. I wish you every success on your new team and I'll make it a point to watch you wherever you end up playing. The Habs aren't the Habs to me right now without you there, but I suppose like everything else I'll get used to it. You have big skates to fill and right now the thought of one of the new players wearing your "C" is going down like a fart in a spacesuit. Thanks for all of your efforts and contributions both on and off the ice, you were an inspiration and role model for many. It's with a heavy heart I say goodbye and I'm going to miss you, a lot.
